How Does A Chicken’s Egg Get Its Shell?

Hi, I’m Cristen Conger from
Stuff Mom Never Told You, here to tell you how a
chicken egg gets its shell. You know the old
question about oh, what came first, the
chicken or the egg? Well, let’s scramble
that up– egg pun– and ask, well, which came first,
the chicken egg or the chicken eggshell? Trick question people. They actually grow
at the same time. And the way it works
is through a process that also happens with
bone growth and seashell development. So what happens is there’s
this membrane around the egg. And on that membrane, there
are evenly spaced points where columns of calcite form. And these columns
stack side by side, and then they grow together
like crystals forming the complete shell
out of that calcite. So the calcite is
basically floating in a solution around the
cell once the membrane’s put in place, and it
deposits on the membrane to form that crystal. So the egg grows its own shell. Isn’t that nifty? Who knew that eggs
were so smart? I didn’t. Just bringing a little bit
of science to your breakfast table. You’re welcome. Now, if you want to

Hence the egg came before the chicken.

  3. If you think about how to make a Breaded Chicken Brest Cutlet, which is very simple and basic – its quite sadistic and all sorts of wrong – like how did someone come up with it,

  11. That was pretty cool. That answers a question for me. Thanks. Now can I taste the yoke of an egg in a smoothie, using the whites for something else.

  12. I think eggs are a metaphore on the existence of our universe and how the universe can be represented as in this much grander facade we have no idea how it looks like from the inside

  13. BOTH THE FIRST CHICKEN AND ROOSTER CAME FROM TWO SEPARATE EGGS, WHEREAS THE FIRST WOMAN CAME FROM ADAM'S RIB!!! NO NO NO…DON'T ARGUE WITH ME, K, BUT IF YOU INSIST…THEN WHERE THE HELL DID THE FIRST CHICKEN COME FROM…A BAT?!!! K, SO WHERE THE HELL DID THE FIRST BAT COME FROM?!!! K, SO WHERE THE HELL DID THE FIRST SO AND SO COME FROM…and on and on and on…
BULLSHITTERS SAY: The chicken's origins lie in a group of dinosaurs called the theropods, which evolved into two categories some 230 million years ago…and they know it because they were there!!!
