Hey all! Pardon the mess behind me, Connor and I are getting ready to move to the other side of Brooklyn. But before we move, let’s talk dulce de leche! The creamy caramel sauce that is perfect time of year. This video is part of a huge foodie collaboration with a bunch of other YouTubers. In the spirit of the holidays, each YouTuber has picked a charity to bring awareness to, and we’ve created an awesome list of charities that you can donate to. I’ve chosen NAMI, which is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. My uncle has schizophrenia and I just think that mental illness is something that’s such a taboo topic that people don’t want to talk about, but we should! So that’s why I chose NAMI. Let’s talk dulce de leche. so traditionally you have to stir together milk and sugar over a simmering pot for seven hours continually. That’s a lot of work. Or, you can do with my friend Josh taught me. So what my favorite things to make is dulce de leche, but a lot of people think you have to slave over an oven and make sure it doesn’t burn… I got a trick that’ll save you a lot of trouble. Here I have a can of sweetened condensed milk. Note that he removed the label. You want to do that. This is amazing stuff. You want to know why it’s amazing? You can actually just throw this right into a slow cooker. Please the can on it’s side. Cover it up with water until it’s completely submerged; that is the important thing. There cannot be any exposure, or else there is a risk that this can will explode. Whoa! Cover it in water. To be safe, you want to go at least two inches above the top of the can with the water. You’re going to set it too low and then you’re going to leave it alone for about 8 hours. So after it’s been cooking on low for 8 hours, then we’ll let the water completely cool. Nobody needs any burned fingers. And let the can itself cool completely. Then pull this puppy out. What you’re going to find on the inside is pretty exciting! Dulce de leche! Easiest ever! *laughter* Yes!!! This decadence is exactly what dreams are made of. Now you’ve got your dulce de leche, there’s much you can do with it, endless things you can do with it! My favorite: make some crepes and top it with this sweet treat. You could also use it to fill cookies or simply to top ice cream. That’d be delicious, too. Alright guys, as always, keep it quirky. Happy holidays! If you want to give back this holiday season please check out all of the amazing charities we’ve listed, and don’t forget to check out the other holiday-themed videos in this playlist.
